Kid-Friendly Outings in Houston

Houston is the fourth largest U.S. city, so it’s no surprise that it is chock-full of things to do. It’s also a kid-friendly city, boasting many hands-on attractions that are sure to delight both kids and adults alike. As we move further into summer, here are a few of our favorite attractions for the whole family.

1. The Houston Zoo

At the Houston Zoo, kids get to see animals from every corner of the earth! Children have the opportunity to pet goats, climb through tunnels in the piranha tank, and feed giraffes. To top it all off, the Zoo offers a free day on the first Tuesday of every month!

2. The Museum District

Speaking of free, the Children’s Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural Science, the Health Museum and others are open for absolutely no admission fee every Thursday! These museums are in close proximity, so make a day of it, and bring along a picnic to enjoy in Hermann Park.

3. Hermann Park

Hermann Park also makes a great kid-friendly destination in the great outdoors. Feed the ducks by the lake, rent a pedal boat, and take a ride on the train for a day that’s sure make every member of your family smile.

4. Volunteer

Give your child the opportunity to develop compassion and empathy for others by volunteering at The Houston Food Bank! Volunteers as young as six are permitted to help out, and families are encouraged to sign up.

5. Splash Pads

Houston is known for its notoriously hot summers, but did you know that it’s also home to 27 splash pads? Put on your sunscreen and get ready to cool off with the whole family!
