Montessori Infant & Toddler Program in Houston

For children 6 weeks to 3 years · Available across 6 Houston-area campuses

From the very first days of life, a child is already learning — absorbing language, responding to warmth, forming the earliest sense of trust.

Our Montessori infant and toddler program in Houston was built around this truth. At Montessori School of Downtown, we provide a peaceful, unhurried environment where your youngest child is free to explore, discover, and grow — guided by caregivers who genuinely know and love each child in their care.

Dr. Maria Montessori observed that the earliest years of life are filled with what she called 'Sensitive Periods' — windows of heightened receptivity when a child's brain is most ready to absorb specific experiences. Our programme is built to honour these moments. New concepts, textures, sounds, and social experiences are introduced at exactly the right developmental time — naturally, joyfully, and without rush.

Infants and toddlers, in their truest form, have a natural quest for knowledge. At Montessori School of Downtown, we provide the opportunity to explore life in a peaceful, unpressured environment. Through gentle guidance, we nurture each child's innate curiosity, allowing learning to unfold naturally and without obstacles.

Child exploring at Montessori School of Downtown

New concepts are introduced at the right moment of developmental readiness, a time Dr. Maria Montessori called the "Sensitive Period." Just as a parent nurtures their newborn, we create the ideal atmosphere in an unconditional, positive manner where learning thrives.

A Prepared Space Built for Your Baby's Earliest Discoveries

Our infant and toddler classrooms are designed from the ground up with your baby in mind. Low shelving, natural light, separate areas for sleeping, feeding, and activity — every detail follows your child's individual rhythm.

🌱

Responsive, Individual Care

Each infant follows their own feeding, sleeping, and activity rhythm. Our guides work to your child's schedule, not a fixed classroom timetable.

🤱

Nursing-Friendly Programme

Parents who are nursing are welcome to come in at any time during the day. We make it easy to stay connected to your baby's earliest routine.

🎵

Sensory-Rich Materials

Baskets, textured objects, mirrors, and soft play materials stimulate each sense and support the natural drive to explore that every infant is born with.

🏡

Safe, Calm Environment

Separate sleep, feed, and play areas keep the environment predictable and soothing — the foundation of secure early attachment and emotional wellbeing.

👶

Low Student-to-Guide Ratios

Our small group sizes mean every child receives the attentive, responsive care they need to feel truly seen, settled, and supported throughout the day.

📋

Ongoing Communication

You'll always know how your child's day has gone — through daily updates, open-door communication, and regular developmental check-ins with your child's guide.

What Your Child Will Learn and Develop

Every child develops at their own pace. Our responsive programme supports each stage as it unfolds — never pushing, always encouraging.

🤝

Secure Attachment & Trust

Children form a reliable bond with their primary guide, developing the foundational sense of safety that supports all future learning and relationships.

👀

Sensory Exploration

Through sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, infants use all their senses to investigate the world — exactly as nature designed them to.

🗣️

Early Language & Communication

Guides narrate experiences, respond to vocalisations, and read aloud daily — building vocabulary and the early foundations of literacy from day one.

🚶

Gross Motor Development

Rolling, crawling, pulling up, and eventually walking — our environment gives children safe space to develop physical confidence and independence.

Fine Motor Skills

Grasping, pouring, stacking, and transferring objects strengthens hand-eye coordination and prepares small hands for writing and self-care.

🌏

Social Awareness

Even our youngest children begin noticing others, learning to observe, imitate, and — in time — play alongside their peers in a gentle community.

What Do Our Parents Say?

Leaving your baby for the first time is one of the hardest things a parent does. The team at MSODT's Medical Center campus made it possible. From day one, they knew my son's patterns, communicated with me every hour, and treated him like he was their own. Six months in, I don't drop him off — I watch him reach for his guide with a big smile.
